Robert Conne Becker
Robert Conne Becker, 85, of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away on Saturday, February 10, in hospital after a short battle with dementia and lung cancer. His wife, Beverly, and granddaughters, Rachel (Dale) Sisneth and Ashley Lambert, were by his side. He is survived by his daughters, Roberta (Bernie) Bast and Edy (Casey) Gagne, youngest son, Jason (Uriel Banegas Gonzalez) Cormier, and grandson, Ian Lambert. He is predeceased by his eldest son, Daniel Becker.
Robert, known to everyone as “Bob”, was born in Fernie, British Columbia, on May 20th, 1938, to Stephen and Barbara Becker. He was the middle child in a close-knit group of 5 siblings, predeceased by his sister, Shirley (Gigi) Carolei, and survived by his other sister, Marg (Dave) Flack, 2 brothers, Steven (Sharon) and Roy, and his loving nieces and nephews. He moved to Edmonton, Alberta, in 1961 and in 1968 founded National Concrete Accessories (N.C.A) with his best friend, Ben Bruins. They went on to have many successful years together before selling the company in 1989. After the sale, Robert stayed on as president until 2005 as he truly enjoyed being a businessman.
In his personal life he loved music, hockey, and traveling. Country and Western was his top choice and often when he walked into the local bar, the band would stop whatever song they were playing to fire up some Johnny Cash just for him. Robert always had that effect on people. An Oilers season ticket holder for many years, he used to tell stories of landing from Hawaii (his favourite destination) and heading straight to the arena from the airport, never wanting to miss a game if he could help it. Going as far as to schedule business trips around the Oilers schedule. He took his family on many adventures all over the world before settling down as a snowbird in Chandler, Arizona.
While some knew him to have a tough exterior and others a great sense of humour, his family knew him as someone who always made sure everyone was looked after, going above and beyond to lend a helping hand. His death has left a huge void and he will be deeply missed by those who loved him most.

My deepest condolences to you Bev and family. Uncle Rob was such a great guy and will truly be missed by all who knew him. He was always there to help and or support family and friends in times of need. So many great memories of you guys visiting us in Kelowna. Uncle Rob will always hold a place in the hearts of many for his kindness and generosity. He worked hard for many years and achieved great success because of his smart business sense and his contagious personality. I could never thank him enough for the love and support he showed me growing up and eventually working for him at NCA. There will never be another guy like him! See you on the other side Uncle Robert.

I only today , April 1, learned of Bob’s death. My condolences to all of Bob’s family.
I worked with Bob in various jobs and found him to be a wise and kind man in many ways. He will be missed.
When we met for lunch a few times after he retired we had a nice time reminiscing about past days at NCA. NCA was a powerhouse of a company across Canada in its heyday that was in a great amount due to Bob’s management skills.

Thanks Edi for reaching out to me, Bev I wish you and the family all the best now and in the future. Bob and I go back a long ways…friends, partners and then back to friends (the full circle), since I learned of his passing he has entered my thoughts many times always which ends up with me with a smile on my face. It was real good to see the names Ivan Kawulka and Lyall Riley again, and was sad to hear that Danny had passed away.
I know Bob is in a good place, I’m sure him and Ben have connected by now and are busy making room for the rest of us when our time comes.
