Irene Mary Alice Leveille (nee Martel)
Irene Leveille of Edmonton passed away peacefully at the age of 95 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Michele (Grant) McCaughey, Peter (Sue), Joel (Michelle) and Bart; grandchildren Sean, Erin (Bryce), Peter (Lauren), Simeon, Paul (Elizabeth), Nathan (Stacey), Michael (Emily), Jake and Troy (Andrea); great-grandchildren Keegan, Gavin, Scarlett, Evan, Peter, Margaret, Charlie, Amber, Calvin and Mia; and brothers Marlin and Blaine Martel. She was predeceased by her parents Joe and Kitty Martel; brothers Bob and Roy Martel; and her former husband Pierre "Peter" Leveille.
Irene was born in Alida, Saskatchewan and attend Alida School. In October 1946 she married Peter Leveille of Alida. They farmed for a few years before moving to Winnipeg where they raised their four children. Irene worked in various positions as a seamstress, then as a customer service clerk at Simpson-Sears, the Sunshine Baker and Safeway. She moved to Edmonton in 1986.
Irene was a life long hockey fan, and her favorite hockey player was Gordie Howe. She enjoyed walks in the countryside and river valley sharing her love of nature with her grandchildren. She loved gardening and her flowers were always amazing! She was a talented acrylic artist and enjoyed painting landscapes. She knitted toques, mitts and scarves for children in need and made sure here grandchildren were well supplied with home-made cookies!
She was a compassionate, hard-working mother who loved her family dearly and will be forever missed.
