Frieda Eastman (nee Werschke)
It is with great sadness that the family of Frieda Eastman (nee Werschke) announces that she passed away on Jan 23, 2024 after succumbing to a stroke experienced earlier in the month.
Frieda was born on April 21, 1934 in Edmonton, Alberta to Emil and Olga Werschke.
Frieda is survived by her husband John, her son Brad, her grandkids Nicole and Spencer, her brother Les and sister Ruth and many loving nieces and nephews, as well as many close friends and acquaintances.
Frieda was predeceased by her siblings Ted, Katie and Hilda.
Frieda loved her home town and lived in Edmonton her whole life. It was there she met her husband, John Eastman, with whom she enjoyed 70 happy years of married life.
Frieda loved her Oilers - she and Johnny spent many happy hours together cheering on their favourite team. And although Johnny never did, as the song says, get her on the “slow boat to China all on his own,” they went to Hawaii twenty-five times! More importantly, she loved God and her family. As a long-time member of Central Pentecostal Tabernacle, Frieda was a member of the choir and the “Melodettes.”
She was known as a gracious host to friends and family.
Frieda was one of those increasingly rare people who spent her whole adult career working for the same large accounting firm in Edmonton as a secretary and administrative assistant. The
firm went through several mergers, and she remained a valued part of team until she retired!
She will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held at Saints Church, 6315 199 Street Northwest, Edmonton, AB, Canada on Feb 6, at 1 PM.
