Gregory Dean Fraser

Gregory Fraser, better known to much of his family and friends by his middle name “Dean,” passed away in his home on December 21, 2023, at the age of 59.

He will be mourned by his three children Kyle, Tiffany, and Brittany, his grandchildren Aubree and Nixon, his surviving siblings Patti and Russel, and his many family and friends.

Born in Lethbridge, Alberta on August 4th, 1964, Dean enjoyed a childhood in the charming town of Fort Macleod as part of a big family with his 3 sisters Deb, Jean, and Pattie, and 2 brothers Bill and Russ. As an adult, Dean took on the Concrete Finishing trade, becoming a highly efficient and sought-after employee, and experimenting with owning his own concrete finishing business, “Slayer Construction.” Dean’s proudest feat is the fathering of his three beloved children with his former spouse Juanita Fraser, who will keep their father’s memory alive.

His children will fondly remember Dean’s love of the outdoors, remember how he would spend the summers on his quad and cooking hotdogs around the campfire with his family, and reflect on idyllic winters spent chopping firewood, sledding and snowmobiling, and cutting down the most unreasonably large Christmas tree he could find (a plastic tree was forbidden!) His children cherish many more childhood memories, such as his culinary expertise in the realm of roasts, steak, and stew, as well as the occasional culinary oversight such as his penchant for the wateriest Kraft Dinner ever consumed. His children reflect on memories of their time with Dean as adults as well. He spent time bonding with his son over hockey. He experienced the privilege of becoming a grandfather and spent many hours playing Legend of Zelda with his granddaughter. Dean leaves his children with a wealth of cherished memories.

The biggest fan of the Vancouver Canucks you could ever meet, Dean was passionate about hockey and it was a key part of what made him who he was. No fairweather fan, he supported his team regardless of if they were challenging for the Stanley Cup, or tanking for the draft lottery. He was ecstatic for the coming season, and enjoyed watching his Canucks annihilate the Edmonton Oilers on three separate occasions, much to the devastation of his son. His surviving family offer their support to the Vancouver Canucks, in the hopes that they can win a cup in honour of Dean.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Trinity Funeral Home (10530 116 Street, Edmonton AB), on Saturday, January 13th, 2024, at 2:00 PM.
