It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Alex Eleniak on November 19, 2023 at his home in St. Albert, Alberta.

Alex will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife Connie, of 51 years, daughter Nicole (Todd) and granddaughters Adele and Lily. He leaves behind his daughter Debra (Graeme), from a previous marriage, along with his sister Stevie, and his brothers Mike, Ed, and Joe.

Alex is predeceased by his parents Peter W. Eleniak and Sophie Eleniak as well as his siblings Angeline, Liz, Olga and Bill.

Alex was born in Chipman, Alberta. He grew up with his eight siblings on the same homestead that his grandfather built. When Alex was a teenager he moved to Vancouver with his family for a short time, and then he relocated to Holden Alberta. He had several jobs throughout his lifetime, primarily being a welder fabricator.  Shortly after the birth of his daughter Nicole, he entered into post secondary education and proudly obtained his first-class welding certificate through the Northern Institute of Technology (NAIT) in Edmonton, Alberta.

Throughout his lifetime, Alex enjoyed trout fishing and camping. He was an outdoor enthusiast. He was passionate about gardening, as well as the upkeep of his lawn and flower beds. After Alex retired, he took up several hobbies. He was a talented wood worker who designed and built many pieces of fine furniture for his daughter Nicole. Throughout the years he ventured on many summer road trips to Thompson, Manitoba with his wife Connie, to assist Nicole and her husband Todd with home and cabin repairs. If you ever needed something fixed, he was the man to do it!

Alex was a proud grandpa to Adele and Lily. He looked forward to their annual visits over Christmas and summer. His furry grand dogs grew on him.

In his later life, his hobbies included solving sudoku puzzles, reading, and in most recent months he enjoyed jig saw puzzles.

Alex’s life was a tapestry of perseverance and hard work and this legacy will continue to live on in those that knew him best.

At Alex’s request, no service will be held. Cremation has taken place.

  1. My heart goes out to Mrs. Eleniak (Connie), Nicole and family at this immensely difficult time. Mr. Eleniak (Alex) was an amazing man and I remember him fondly throughout my formative years. He was always immensely proud of his daughter (and my BFF) Nicole. He would do anything for his family. The world has lost a great man, one of the hardest workers I’ve ever met, but his memory will live on with his strong and beautiful granddaughters. Thank you for sharing your life with us and may you rest in peace. You will be greatly missed ❤️
