It is with great sadness that our family announces Barry’s passing on September 30, 2023 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Barry is survived by his wife Linda of 53 years; children Kevin (Ashley), Darren (Kimberly), and Melanie. Also carrying on his legacy are his eight grandchildren Trussan, Trentan, Julia, Jeremy, Rachel, Emmett, Theo and Bridget.

Barry lived in Edmonton most of his life, but his heart was always in Saskatchewan. He was born in Regina to proud parents, Ernie and Irene. They lived in Neudorf until 1957 when they moved to Lethbridge. He was baptized and confirmed at the Christ Lutheran Church. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta in 1969. He began his career at AGT, moving on to the Alberta Liquor Control Board in 1981, and then retiring in 2004. He made many friends through work and was involved in many activities such as lawn bowling, softball, and bonspiels.

Barry curled for many years at the Shamrock, Thistle, and Ellerslie curling rinks. He volunteered in the sport in various roles at individual curling rinks, the Northern Alberta Curling Association and Brier committees. He proudly went on the Strathcona cup and was a member of the Governor's General Curling Club. Barry loved to golf and was a member of the Northern Alberta Senior Association and Dorchester Golf Course. Linda and Barry enjoyed camping at Whispering Spruce Campground where they had an amazing community of friends. His passion was traveling and he enjoyed trips to New Zealand, Australia, China, Mexico, Mesa and to one of his favorite places, Ramona, California. His grandchildren’s sporting and artistic events were also not to be missed.

A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 1pm at the Spirit of Hope United Church, 7909 82 Ave NW, Edmonton.

In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Governor General's Curling Club scholarship fund (https://governorgeneralscurlingclub.com/images/Scholarship/GG Scholarship Donation Form 2023.pdf). 2. Dear Linda and family
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we acknowledge the passing of Barry.
He is one of my oldest friends from Lethbridge and our respective university days, mine in Calgary and his in Edmonton.
We remained friends for all these many years even though we did not spend a lot of time together after those years.
I will be forever grateful for his friendship and forever blessed that we reconnected with one another via telephone in recent years.
I will cherish those conversations for the rest of my days.
He was truly one of the good guys. He will be in my heart forever.
Love and fondest wishes for for peace and comfort in the coming days and beyond.
    Dave and Joyce Lawrence
