Lucia (Luci) Irene Russell

Surrounded by her children and best friend, Luci passed away peacefully on Sunday October 1, 2023 at the age of 67. Luci is survived by her two children Sayward (Andy) and Lauren (Tyler) and her two beloved granddaughters Avery and Ruby.

Luci was born in Edmonton and developed a deep love for horses at a young age. Her and her best friend Helen would love to ride bareback together whenever they could from the stockyards on St. Albert Trail all over St. Albert and north Edmonton. Luci had a special love for paint horses and bred and raised them for many years. She loved rodeo, barrel racing and had a love for race horses spending many years at the track in Edmonton and Calgary. She was especially fond of watching the 2 yr olds race and prepare for the triple crown.

Luci passed on her love for horses to her two daughters, they were riding before they were out of the womb. Together they spent many hours in the barn and on their horses preparing for rodeos. They travelled together competing at rodeos throughout Alberta from the time they were old enough to walk until they graduated from high school. Together they qualified for countless rodeo finals and made many memories together.

When Luci's granddaughters arrived they gave her a new purpose. She was overjoyed with them, spending countless hours playing and riding horses together. There is no doubt that they were the highlight of her life. From sleepovers to sneaking chocolate to barrel racing she was there for it all and Avery and Ruby adored her. They made many beautiful memories in their short time together.

As per her wishes there will be no memorial or funeral service.
