Dianne Mary Ball
Dianne passed away peacefully and suddenly in her home on Monday August 7th after a lengthy battle with her health.
Dianne was born on October 16, 1942 in Edmonton. She was predeceased by her Mother Anne, her father Percy, and her sister Donna. She is survived by her sisters Darlene, Debbie, Denise, and her brother Dennis.
Dianne grew up in the town of Wetaskiwin where she began her life long love of Piano. She famously walked by herself over to a local pianist's house at the age of four and demanded lessons. Dianne's love for music grew throughout her life and took her to the Banff Center in her early teens and to the Julliard School of Music in her later teens. She remained in New York in the early 1960's and completed her Master's degree in Music. Dianne returned to Canada thereafter and began to perform and teach. Dianne met and married Wayne Wright in 1966. They had their first son Chris (Sandra Mason) in 1968 and their second son Phillip (Vandy Bowyer) in 1970. Dianne continued to teach throughout her life and she formed many deep and abiding friendships with her students.
Throughout Dianne's life she cherished travel, dogs, and the simple things in life: a good crossword puzzle, a nice glass of wine after dinner, and watching Tennis (especially Rafa Nadal). Later in life Dianne lived alone, but she loved to spend time with her Grandsons Ben and Jack, her enduring friend Lindsay, and she had many supportive relationships with the people in her neighbourhood. Dianne was fiercely independent and loved the home she lived in for the past 35 years.
Dianne was a true original. Her humour, intellect, and kindness will be greatly missed by those who knew her. In lieu of flowers please send any donations to the Edmonton Public Library.
