Deborah (Debbie) Anne Murphy, 65, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2023 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. She was surrounded by her two daughters, Kimberley and Jennifer, her sister, Iona, her niece/ daughter number three, Shannon, and her husband, Arthur, of 41 years.

Debbie was born on November 5, 1957 in Stephenville Newfoundland, where she grew up, the youngest of seven children by Yves and Anne Simon. She is survived by her brothers, Bernard, Roy and Aaron and her sisters, Cynthia and Iona and their families. She has gone to join her parents, and her brother Clyde, who passed in 2015.

Although Debbie relocated west to start her family, she cherished her east coast roots, continuing to cook traditional Newfie meals, sing and dance to the music, and fondly share stories about growing up surrounded by family and the ocean. Debbie was a wonderful wife and loving mother, and her more recent role of grandmother, to two grandchildren (Rayland, Blake) and two fur babies (Sadie, Harley) elicited a sense of pride and devotion that could not be contained.

Debbie and Art spent the better part of the last decade seeing the world. They travelled together whenever they could, exploring the food, sights and fun of the US, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and other countries in Europe. Although she sometimes protested, Debbie would follow Art anywhere, even if it meant getting lost in a new city or taking a "quick hike" that lasted most of the day. She cherished those trips as she had the family adventures (and unexpected paths) of days gone by. She was at her happiest spending time with her husband and her family.

Debbie was a beautiful, loving person and will be missed by many. There will be a Celebration of Life for her on August 2, 1:00pm at Trinity Funeral Home, 10530-116 Street Edmonton, AB.

The family asks that you please consider a donation to the Alberta Women's Health Foundation in lieu of flowers.

  26. Hi Auntie Debbie,
Just wondering how your doing this past week. Are you speaking loudly to Pop?Having tea with Mom or out on the quad with Uncle Clyde? Probably busy hey. I sure missed my birthday phone call yesterday. You never missed that call. Thank you for all the love you gave us throughout the years. I was so glad to have been your mannequin when you started cutting hair. Didn’t always turn out so good for me but we had lots of laughs. Forever in my heart.. fly with the angels my precious Aunt.

Aunt Debi was not much older than I am even though she was my aunt and I remember my childhood days with her and the family and her smiles and fun living spirit. The last time we saw you was in Stephenville a few years ago. Debi was a beautiful person who loved her family more than anything. I know you will miss her greatly and I hope you cherish your fond memories of her and keep her in your heart forever. Rest in peace Debbie xo. Hugs and wish you all peace in the future. Xxx & Hugs. 29. My heart breaks for you, Art, and for your daughters, and for all the people who were touched by Debbie in her life. I was looking for an inspiration when Eb died, but I couldn’t find anything that overcame the grief. I guess the only way out is through. I can tell you from experience that it gets better. Take it minute by minute, allow yourself to feel all the feelings. Remember to love yourself, because Debbie certainly did, and you have so many people who continue to love you now. If there is anything I can ever do to help, please let me know.
