Helen Siew Lin Choo
Helen was born and raised in Tutong, Brunei, with her 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Their family moved to Seria when Helen was 9 years old and it was there where she met her soulmate, James, whom she married in 1963. Their daughter, Maureen, arrived a year later. When James went to Canada for work, Helen and Maureen joined him 6 months later, in 1969, where they made their home in Edmonton, Alberta. It was there that they welcomed several Bruneians into their homes and helped them set up their lives in Canada.
Helen was the life of the party. She was always dancing, laughing, and making the whole room brighter. With her faith in God, she showed compassion to all those that entered her life. Helen loved her family with fierce loyalty.
Helen is lovingly remembered by her husband, James Choo; daughter, Maureen (Tony); and grandchildren, Brianna and Hilary.
Helen will be greatly missed and always loved.

My condolence to the passing away of Aunt Helen Choo. She had come across as an empathetic caring woman who had a big heart for those around. Her kindred spirit lifted souls up. Still remember the last time I saw her at restaurant dinner table. She would be missed.

I knew Helen from 1979 when I was a new immigrant. Like many others before me, she had helped, guide and open her home to me. She was a woman with a huge generous heart and expected nothing in return!!

My deepest condolences to hear of Ah 嫂 passing. I am sad and heartbroken by this news. Sending your family my love, thoughts, and prayers.
When I came to Canada 48 years ago, Ah 嫂 and Ko-koh, welcomed me into their home. During my year living here, I learned a lot of valuable skills and have lots of fond memories. I remember Ah 嫂 taught me how to cook ikan asam. My first birthday cake I ever received was from her. My wedding was planned & organized by her, she cooked a huge pot of curry, and even taught me how to dance for my wedding. When the makeup artist didn’t show up, she stepped in and applied my makeup for me. She was such a smart and multi-talented woman.
Ah 嫂 loved my kids so dearly and always showered them with gifts. I will forever remember her kindness and love.
I just wanted to let you know, when I was young, I always felt protected and your family provided me with so much support, love, and kindness, I will forever be so grateful & appreciate you very much. I will never forget you two and I will cherish these memories.
