Mun Ming Wong
Mun Ming Wong immigrated from China to Canada in 1955 and joined his father at the Beaverlodge Café in northern Alberta. By the mid 1960’s, he moved his wife and seven children to Edmonton where he was employed as a cook for most of his working career. Sadly, he was predeceased by his wife, Tak Ying, and his sons Floyd and Bruce.
He is survived by his daughter Sally, son Melvin (Siew Lang), son David, son Tom (Karen), daughter Linda (Joseph), grandchildren Darren (Bonita), Daniel (Justin), Jarrett, Justin (Haley), Andrew and great-grandchildren Saya, Kana, Alexandra and Lucas.
Mun spent the last ten years at the Edmonton General in long term care. Many of the staff on his unit commented he was always smiling and happy and was a favorite resident.
He will be missed by everyone.
A private burial has taken place at Beechmount Cemetery where Mun has been reunited with his wife.
To the Wong family. What testament of a strong life well lived. Immigrating from China, working hard all one’s life and introducing every opportunity to your children for a different life than what you had. We met Mun Ming at one wedding and many extended family meals at the best Chinese restaurants. He was a contented man with few words who basked in the company of his family. Rest in Peace Mun Ming.
