Elsie Barry (Skjersven)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Elsie, on Saturday, February 24, 2018.
She is survived by her 5 children; Jim, John (Lynn), Doug, Rhonda (Dan) and Garth, 5 grandchildren; Jim (Andrea), Lisa (Tim), Jason (Alysha), Scott and Michael, 4 great grandchildren: Xander, Linkin, Conrad and Ava.
She is survived by her sisters; Mable (Joe), Dorothy, Grace, Helen and Mary. Her brother Ken (Isabelle) and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her grandparents; John & Louise, her parents; John and Lillian, her sisters; Irene and Betty, her brothers; Norman, George and Harold.
Elsie loved her family and life. She adored her grandchildren and was so proud of each of them. The great grandchildren brought so much joy and many smiles to her face. She loved the family reunions, playing cards, camping, game shows, watching hockey and just hanging out with her family.
We sincerely want to thank her doctors and nurses at the Grey Nuns Unit 51 for their care and compassion during these difficult days. As well we would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Fanous, Cathy, Dr. Duggan, Myrna and Odette for all you have done for our mom over the years.
A celebration of Life will be held at a future date at Cherry Grove, Alberta. Donations in memory of Elsie may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Our deepest sympathies on the loss of your Mom.
I will always very fondly remember Elsie as our ‘neighbourhood’ Mom. Her home was a welcoming oasis during my teenage years. Her door was always open and coffee pot was always on, and I can just picture her with that gentle smile and sparkle in her eyes sitting at the kitchen table. She rarely ever raised her voice or gave advice, except the odd occasion when she caught Rhonda and I (not so quietly) sneaking back into the house after bed time. I recall lots of crocheted decorations and Barbie clothes and will never forget the Barbie furniture she so lovingly crafted out of recycled cigarette packs. I have so many wonderful memories of your Mom and your family.
We’re sad you had to say goodbye so soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you navigate the road ahead.
Love and many hugs,
Monica and Greg
