To Tony and family,
Your dad came over from Acores to Canada with my dad, Manuel Cordeiro.
I remember as a little girl visiting with your parents and their kindness and he was my dad’s friend to the end.
Our deepest condolences for your loss. May he rest in peace 🙏🏻🙏🏻😇😇

55+ years ago, the Portuguese community was small, so people watched over for each other and treated them like family. Immigrant families have many memories of the difficulty they faced in a new homeland, but they also have wonderful stories of true kindness, friendship and love from others.
Mr. Pavao is one such man. He was a gentle and kind man. There are two memories of my childhood I remember:
When mom went in for an operation, Mrs. and Mr. Pavao took care of me. I was a toddler and my Dad needed to work. My Mom and Dad were forever grateful for the kindness they showed us when no one else could care for their child.
Mr. Pavao was also a gifted carpenter. I remember the beautiful handcrafted rocking horse he made for my brother, his godson. It was carefully painted red and white. It was truly a lovely toy, prized by my brother.
Mr. Pavao will always be remembered as a pioneering pillar of our community, a respected gentleman and a kind friend.
Our sincere condolences to Tony and his family.
