William (Bill) Tremain
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Tremain on Friday, March 25, 2022. Bill will lovingly be remembered and deeply missed by his wife and best friend Michele, three children Darrin Tremain, Kim (Tremain) Brochu and Kelley Tremain, son-in-law Cam Brochu and the loves of his life his grandchildren Avery Brochu, Isabel Brochu and Mercedes Kennedy, grandson-in-law Andy Kennedy and his great grand-children Sailor, Wylder and Jett. He also leaves to mourn him his brother Jack, Sandy and sister Delores.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Vern and Fern Tremain and his brothers Al, Ray and sisters Carol and Wendy.
Bill was born on October 18, 1948, in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan. Bill served 24 years in the Canadian Armed Forces and achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He served the Royal Canadian Artillery units in Canada, Germany and 2 UN tours in Cyprus and with the Canadian Airborne Regiment. With great strength of character and an admirable work ethic he had a second career for 22 years as a Construction Safety professional, with PCL for 6 years and joined the ACSA for another 16 years in Safety and training. Bill taught safety courses for the Alberta Construction Safety Association and was considered one of their top Instructors due to his knowledge, listening and communication skills.
Bill and Michele loved travelling, the outdoors and spending time at the lake. Bill was a very proud father who placed a lasting imprint on his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives, empowering their self-worth. Those close to Bill would describe him as a good and happy man, a man of character on whom they could rely on. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held on July 30th at the St. Albert Legion, 6 Tache St, St. Albert, AB. from noon until 3pm.

CWO Bill Tremain was an outstanding gunner who took great pride in his Regiment and his service with the Airborne Regiment. I came to know him after he retired where his passion for military history was evident, as was his outgoing enthusiastic personality. His work on recording the service of the Airborne Battery will leave a lasting legacy to future gunners seeking examples of devotion to duty. The first time that I have met Bill, it was in Edmonton on May 18, 1972, he was Mbdr and jumpmaster.
Bill was taske to check me on the landing souing and to confermed that I was hupe to date on my jumpings technique.
I served whit in 4 1/2 years in Edmonton, ialso in Cyprus and later in Germany.

Bill and I go back a long ways we first met attending a course in Gagetown in 1975, served together in different units in Canada and abroad and even on a UN tour of Cyprus. After retirement we kept our friendship and visited each other many times in various places mostly playing golf in the US and sometimes here in Canada. He was a true friend to me and I will miss him dearly.
May he rest in peace his dedication to family and fellow soldiers was second to none.

Bill Tremain will be remembered as a caring friend, a loving husband and father/grandfather and an exceptional soldier. I had the honour of serving with Bill while with 1 Airborne Battery. He was my good friend and one of the most qualified paratroopers in the Airborne Regiment. One of my most cherished belongings is my jumper statuette. Bill Tremain rigged up and posed for this creative piece of art. I remember him every time I look at it. A wonderful, warm man who lived a full life and will be missed.
My deepest sympathy Michele, Darren, Kim, Kelley and all members of Bill’s extended family. May loving memories bring you peace, comfort and strength.
Bill was truly one of the good people of this earth. Always kind, caring and loving to his family and others as well as a very intelligent and hard-working man. He was my favourite brother-in-law and wish we’d kept in touch through the years.

This is so sad. We had heard that Bill was having health issues for sometime now and had not received any updates of late and, naturally, I was concerned. The news of his passing reminds us how fragile life is. I served briefly albeit not closely with Bill, as he was our Battery Sgt-Major in Cyprus, in 1985-86, and I knew he was Airborne Gunner with a long Artillery and Airborne background, and that he was Parachute Instructor. Even though Bill and I were never close during Service because of his rank and various positions he held in the Canadian Forces, Michele, Bill and I grew closer after my retirement and attending various reunions throughout the Country. It was indeed an honour to have served with him and a pleasure to have known him. Michele and Bill picked me up at the Edmonton Airport, and were kind enough to have me stay at their house, when I travelled to bring parachute equipment, intended for the RCA Museum, in Shilo. During a trip to Las Vegas, they drove my spouse and I around, invited us to their beautiful RV, and took us to different places, and many restaurants. On other occasions, and once with Bill’s brother Jack and wife Sandy, they travelled to Quebec City and it was so nice to link up again with them. So I got to know Bill considerably more as retired members, and isn’t this the case for many of us retirees from the CF, as we have more time for socializing. Anyways, he was very proud of his time with the Airborne Gunners, and that he was a day one member of 1 Airborne Battery, RCA, in Edmonton.
As a retired member, and on his own schedule and availability, Bill spent considerable time and much devotion as the AB Gunner representative in charge of keeping the retired AB Gunner community informed on CF, airborne and other related issues, as well as the ordering of airborne kit and paraphernalia. His emails were pertinent and informative, and on many occasions I have thanked him for keeping us informed, and that his diligent work was greatly appreciated. He will be missed. He certainly contributed to make the Artillery and the airborne family better organizations, and the Canadian Forces, a better institution. À son épouse Michele, les enfants et membres de la famille, amis et collègues militaires mes sincères condoléances. Michele, je suis sensible à ta douleur et tiens à rendre hommage à ton époux Bill, pour son engagement envers les Forces canadiennes, les troupes aéroportées, et la communauté des membres retraités. Durant sa carrière militaire active et depuis sa retraite, ainsi que les services rendus au Canada, au Régiment royal de l’Artillerie canadienne, aux troupes aéroportées et à sa communauté, Bill a servi avec distinction et honneur. En espérant que son souvenir soit une influence positive pour ceux qui suivront. Il ne sera pas oublié. We met in the early 80’s when he was the BSM of D Bty, then I got to know Bill better when we deployed to Cyprus. I enjoyed his story telling and the way he worked his personal experiences into training. Bill was always firm but fair with me and I appreciate all of the talks we had. When I came to him with a variety of issues, he always listened and then provided me with well-thought-out responses or solutions. Bill made me a better person and I am grateful for that. Bill will be sadly missed.

We went to Bill’s Celebration of Life this past weekend and it was truly a celebration. It touched both of us deeply. We will miss Bill. He was a kind, giving person and did so much for us.
