Lyla Farris
We are celebrating a life well lived. Lyla passed away peacefully at the age of 86 years. Lyla grew up in the small town of Dysart, Saskatchewan on the family farm with her parents and siblings, enjoying the simple things that life on a farm provided. She moved to Edmonton, Alberta in 1952 and quickly found work at the Alberta Hospital where she met her husband, Mike.
After marrying shortly after they met, both Mike and Lyla continued to work at Alberta Hospital, and spent many nights bowling, and continued to bowl well after retiring together in 1980. As many of us remember Lyla and Mike spent their lives together enjoying it to the fullest, with their lush vegetable garden and flower beds, decorating the home for every holiday or event, collecting bowling trophies, camping in Alberta in the summer, and jumping in the motorhome to escape winter for the southern sun of Yuma, Arizona. Lyla and Mike had a large circle of family and friends, whom they welcomed over into their home for so many dinners, (sometimes heated) card games, and parties. Lyla recalled so many wonderful parties at her home with her sisters and many nieces, nephews and friends. Lyla and Mike always kept busy, joining up with friends on many camping trips, motorhome vacations, and just simply enjoying their lives together. Although Mike and Lyla did not have children of their own, their home was always filled with joyful times with family, friends, food and laughter. After Mikes passing in 2004, Lyla stayed in her home for several years. She eventually decided to move into an apartment with her sister, Anne and they lived together until Anne passed away in 2021. Lyla was known for her great sense of humour and was loved by her extended family, who stayed in touch with her on a regular basis for the remainder of her years.
Lyla was predeceased by her husband (Mike), her parents (Amen and Carrie), her siblings (Anne, Edward, Alec, and Zee). She will be remembered and missed by her sisters Audrey (Marty), and Faye, niece Jackie (Robert), grandchildren of the heart (Simon and Claire), and her many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to express our thanks to the staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for their care of Lyla. So goodbye for now Lyla - wife, daughter, sister, aunty, cousin and friend; we have all been so lucky to have had you in our lives.
Love you aunty. Your laughter, love and kindness will be remembered forever. 💖
I met my wife Geri through Mike and Lyla in 1958. We were very close friend ever since and I will forever be grateful for that introduction. Rest in peace Lyla
