Dennis Rodgers Hushagen
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad - Dennis Rodgers Hushagen.
He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his adorning family and friends on July 7, 2021 at the age of 66 after a courageous battle with occupational cancer. Next to his family, his 34 year career with the Edmonton Fire Department was one of his proudest accomplishments and he retired as a District Chief in 2015. Dennis was a true traveller, a mesmerizing storyteller, and a captivating presence in any room. He had a great love for skiing, dips in the ocean and “keeping busy”. His flair for life, goofy personality and ease of conversation earned him many long and lasting friendships.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bud and Marion, and his darling wife Patricia. Dad will be eternally missed by his daughters Tesa (Sean) and Kenya (Jamie), his two “Sweetie” granddaughters Josephine and Everly, his loving sister Leigh Anne (Dave) and many extended family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on July 17 at 2pm at Knox Evangelical Church (8403 104 St NW) – Summertime celebration attire is strongly encouraged
Please join us at the Shamrock Curling Club (9330 80 Ave NW) following the service to remember and celebrate Dennis’ life.
Please do not attend the service if you have any cold or flu like symptoms. Masks are optional.

You girls already know that I cannot imagine the pain and heartbreak of experiencing and living through yet another loss. I am at loss for words that can comfort you. Time will close the wound but the scars are always there and a reminder of the love Your family shares.❤️
I knew Dennis before he became a firefighter. We both worked with the gas company (Northwestern Utilities) in the 1970s in their construction department. Dennis was a pipefitter on a crew and I was a truck driver/equipment operator. My experience with him quickly indicated that he was a bright and intelligent fellow and would likely move on soon. One day he came to work with the message that it would be his last week with us as he had been accepted by the EFD. At that time, many of the post war firefighters were retiring and replacements were needed. Dennis was one of the lucky applicants. He was told that it was his history of volunteerism that got him the job. Much later I saw him in a TV program showing various job opportunities when he was working at the training location. As for me, after a dozen years with the gas company, I became a self employed historical illustrator.
Dear family, Barry and Clara Latham ( this Clara sending this note) knew Bud and Marion through the Cardiac group. Friends with Bob and,Doreen Shauffle too.
I am so sorry to hear about Dennis , meeting only a couple of times.
Coincidentally, Barry passed away on July11.
My deepest of sympathy to all the family. He was too young
So sorry to hear about Dennis, I only learnt of his passing today – my apologies, it’s been a long time. I spent just a week in his company many years ago, around 2005, while making a TV show for British television.
He was so very kind to me, a genuine character, he had a real impact. He clearly had great devotion to his work, but also stand-out humour and perhaps a little mischief too. I instantly really really liked him.
Thank-you Dennis, it was a privilege to meet you. My condolences to all who knew you, Ashley.
