Orest Motowylo
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Orest Motowylo at the age of 82 years.
He leaves to mourn, his loving wife of 57 years, Ida Jean, three sisters: Elsie Lukenchuk, Ethel Hord and Marilyn Bartoshyk (Percy) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by his beloved father Sam, mother Mary, sister Ivy and brother David.
Orest started his teaching career in Beauvallon and Derwent, then moved to Edmonton to finish his 36 years of teaching with the Edmonton Public School Board.
Orest was a special friend to everyone he met throughout his life and he was known for his fastball coaching skills for the senior men and women.
Special thanks to the doctors and staff at the Grey Nuns Hospital and Cross Cancer Institute.
If you wish, in lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Edmonton Cross Cancer Institute.
Private cremation has taken place.

Sincerest condolences to Ida and Orest’s family. My husband and I were so fortunate to have their friendship for so many years, including those special times at Island Lake. Orest earned my respect and admiration through his professional commitment when we were colleagues at two junior high schools in Edmonton. I admired the patience displayed and the encouragement provided in his role as my curling skip. So many precious memories. He will be deeply missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. Orest was a Dear friend, to my family. I wonderful memories of Saturday’s at A&W, laughing over coffee. He and my Dad talking about Two Hills, and area. My deepest condolences Ida, it was my pleasure to have met such a wonderful man at Island Lake, the memories will stay with us for a long time from fishing, campfires, pot lucks, baseball, his warm smile & friendship.

Mr. Motowylo was my Grade 5 Social Studies teacher back in the late 1960’s. He was one of those unforgettable teachers and I remember fondly because of his kindness, compassion and great sense of humour. I’m truly sorry to learn of his passing. He definitely left a very positive impression.
Mr. Motowylo was an inspired teacher who I was lucky to have in Grade 5 at Laurier Heights Elementary School in the mid-1960s. It is rare for someone to leave such a lasting impression, but SO many years later I remember him for his passion and enthusiasm and for making every child feel special. He was a gifted educator.
