Arline Mae King (nee Aird)
Arline was born in Jamaica on January 1st, 1938, the youngest of three girls in her immediate family. Arline passed away peacefully in Edmonton on April 9th, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Arline was predeceased by her parents F.W. ”Billy” and Christine Aird, her husband Granis Rexford King, her sister Heather Mosychuk, her brother-in-law Nick Mosychuk and her niece Dianne Bodden.
Arline was loved by many, and will be especially missed by her eldest sister Hazel Bodden, her brother-in-law Bobby Bodden, sons Nigel (Leanne) and Richard (Sonia). She was Nana to Alex, Mikaela (Brian) and Cameron, Grandma to Krista and Lindsey, and Great Nana to Lenny.
She met the love of her life while working at Barclay’s Bank in Kingston, Jamaica. After getting married in 1961, they were transferred to Trinidad, where Nigel and Richard were born. In 1970, they immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta, to join some family and friends. Eventually Arline returned to banking and worked at CIBC until her retirement.
Arline was famous for her cooking and baking, especially her patties, perogies, and fruit (mostly rum) cake. She loved to paint, garden, sew, play golf, relax on the beach and spend time with family and friends.
Due to current restrictions, Arline's memorial will be limited to immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
I have fond memories of meeting Arline in Edmonton and her generosity and kindness in inviting us for the most amazing meal she prepared using her favourite recipes from Trinidad. It was also such a pleasure to return her hospitality when she visited our home in Halifax NS with Susan and we were able to travel around the Cabot Trail together. I always admired how she was not afraid to try new things and was always prepared for whatever event was planned. Sending sincere condolences to Richard , Nigel and family on the loss your wonderful caring Mom, sister , Nana and Grandma.
