  2. Calvin was a great colleague, mentor, and friend. He enriched all that he encountered.

  3. My heart felt condolences to the Shantz family. His professional charisma, wit and sincerity will dearly be missed by all.

  4. I will remember Cal for his stories, puzzles & wit. How very sad that someone who truly enriched everyone’s lives, should be taken so young. My sincerest condolences to Helen & family.

  5. I feel privileged to have known Cal. He was a great man, a man of faith and integrity. It was clear that he loved and followed God in his life, loved his family and was a hard working person with great character. I was blessed to have known him. I last had lunch with him in January for what I thought would be the last time. As we parted I told him that the world was a better place because of him and that we need more people like him. I am confident that he has gone to be with God. My thoughts and prayers are with your family as I am sure his absence will represent a bit space in your life. I believe the time will come for you to be with him again some time and wish you well as you journey in faith and do the things you need to.

    Take care

  6. There are some people in this world that make a difference. Cal was most assuredly one of those people. He touched lives and change hearts wherever he went. He always had a kind word or a story to tell you.
He will, truly be missed here an earth but I know in my heart he is rejoicing in heaven and celebrating with the Lord

  7. Helen,
cannot even imagine what you must be going through in this difficult time.
Cal was a very intelligent, strong loving person with an exceptional spirit that was a pleasure to be around, always willing to share one of his amazing stories . A great mentor with an endless amount of patience
The love and respect for his “Bride”, as He call you, was inspirational. He will be greatly missed.
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God bless you all.
Cal my friend, Enjoy the beginning of your new life in heaven!

  8. Helen and Family,

I just learned of Cal’s passing. Please accept my sincerest condolences. Every once and a while a person comes into our lives that truly makes us, and those around them, better–Cal was one of those people in my life. A new employee at the job, Cal took me under his wing and freely gave of his time, and with patience he coached me through the many challenges I faced. I remember him carefully unpacking the lunches “fit for a king” each day, and having the opportunity to talk about family and life in general. No matter how busy Cal was he would always set things aside to help me. He was a wonderful mentor and friend to me, and I also saw a man with the highest integrity, who was also first a foremost–a husband and father who cared deeply. Rest in peace Cal. Jane

  9. Cal and I served on the Strathcona Christian Academy Board together , he as Treasurer and I as Chairman. He was so generous with his time and financial talent that he inspired me to sign up for a second term. I admired his commitment to Christian service and faithfulness to our church and school! We often had budget meetings over coffee and he endeared himself to me with his thoughtfulness in leading SCA through complicated financial stewardship.
I was on the other side of the world on business when he passed and want the family to know the fond and grateful thoughts I have in knowing him.

  10. Cal and I served on the Strathcona Christian Academy Board, he as Treasurer and I as Chairman. I remember being inspired by his selfless commitment to our school and church and it motivated me to sign up for another term. We spent time together over coffee meetings working our way through the financial stewardship we were mandated to oversee and he always brought a wisdom to the conversation that blessed our Board work and was immensely valuable to me.
I was on the other side of the world on business when he passed and wanted the family to know I have fond, grateful and appreciative thoughts about his work in our school and our time together.
Peace and courage as you cope with his absence !
